Bend
2023 - words by Maartje Wieling - Behold this beautiful new addition to Gelderland's collection: the Bend armchair. It was made as it was initially conceived. The starting point for the design was Gelderland's thoughtful production process, and Brekveld poured this principle into an elegant and timeless form. He did so by looking for a softer form in the Gelderland collection, which still perfectly matches the character of the brand.
The curves in the design give the armchair a soft look. We see these curves, especially in the back and armrests, which curve smoothly around the semi-circular seat. This curved shape creates slight folds in the backrest, adding dimension to the armchair in a rich yet playful way. The notch at the back of the armchair also plays an important role in the design. In addition, what makes the armchair unique is that the front view gives a very open feel and has a sleek finish, while also providing comfort where it matters.
Arian Brekveld likes to take the production process as a starting point when designing a new piece of furniture and that is exactly Gelderland's strength. A collaboration between Brekveld and Gelderland, therefore, seemed promising from the start. The aforementioned traditional production process, in which a piece of furniture is constructed from several layers, formed the basis for the Bend design. Brekveld always looks for the perfect material to build his creations, paying attention to even the most subtle details. This is also evident in the Bend. The fabric of the armchair contributes to the elegant and playfully curved shape of the back and side rests, and even the shape and material of the legs make a grand impression.
